It is a true pleasure and great opportunity to be part of the Precision Ketogenic Therapy Program at the University of Florida. I am Associate Professor in the College of Medicine –Gainesville and board certified as a pediatric neurologist and epileptologist.
The well renowned PKT program creates an opportunity to collaborate with students, basic scientists, and clinicians in the evaluation and management of patients with intractable epilepsy. This nurturing environment brings together professionals with different degrees of expertise in basic and clinical science. The depth and breadth of the program makes it a well sought opportunity to collaborate in the evaluation, management and discovery aspects of PKT.
Multiple theories have been hypothesized as the possible explanation of how it works. Although some research studies offer some explanations, we still do not have a clear mechanism of action of the intervention. My interest is to collaborate with colleagues in basic and clinical science with the aim to understand the mechanism of action and to develop pathways for patient care.
PKT is a well-established intervention with a proven track record on safety and efficacy in the management of patients with epilepsy refractory to medical treatment. This intervention has shown positive effects for the treatment of different disorders. Specifically, in neurology, multiple research studies have shown that PKT decreases the frequency of seizures and improves quality of life.
PKT is a proven natural and successful method to control seizures. It is safe, convenient, and easy to implement. It does require some basic education on how to prepare the meals. Most important, it requires time to see the effect on seizure control but in the long run, it is a successful method to control seizures
You don’t have to always come to Gainesville. We offer virtual appointments where we can talk and discuss your medical problems, order testing, and prescribe medications like you were physically at the clinic.
