Medical school at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, Pediatric Residency and Pediatric Endocrinology Fellowship at the University of Florida

This was the most important experience I had in preparing me for medical school and in my getting accepted to an excellent medical school. The patient care aspects were so valuable for learning about what clinical care is like and what patients’ lives are like when living with a debilitating disease. I also learned to have an incredible work ethic by having to balance 20 plus hours per week in the lab plus a full-time rigorous pre-med course load.

I remember forming a close bond with my patients and their families and really caring about doing a good job as the student assigned to them because I felt that it really made a difference in their lives.

I made some wonderful friends and had an unforgettable experience as a member of this research team, and I still regularly recommend to undergraduate students that come to me to ask me what they should do to make themselves strong candidates for medical school to pursue this wonderful opportunity with the Borum lab. Working with Dr. Borum was an honor and a pleasure.
