The research program of the Metabolic Assessment Laboratory focuses on the metabolism of populations with special nutrient requirements. These populations include preterm neonates, HIV positive individuals, and patient diagnosed with seizures, metabolic syndrome, renal disease, cardiovascular disease, or inborn errors of metabolism. The metabolic role of carnitine at different stages of the life cycle and in various pathophysiological states as well as their treatment is a central theme of the research program.
