| Why is lab work important for patients on Ketogenic Therapy? |
Laboratory tests provide information about the health and functions of the body that cannot be observed outwardly or by any other means. Examining the blood chemistry of a patient will yield extremely important data that can be useful to the physician in improving patient care. The Ketogenic Therapy team examines lab values and uses the results to make sure children are staying healthy while on the diet, as well as maintaining the correct blood chemistry to create and sustain seizure control. Lab values are also graphed to look for trends in the patient's progress, and when labs are not taken regularly, certain trends may be missed. Laboratory tests allow the Ketogenic Therapy team to better care for and track the progress of your child. |

| How do members of the KetoGator team monitor patients on Ketogenic Therapy? |
The assessment is a method of tracking the patient's progress on the diet by monitoring diet ratio, seizure history, anthropometrics, lab values, medications and other health and social related issues. In addition to the subjective and objective, there are also graphs that provide a long-term visual of the patient's progress on the Ketogenic Therapy. The assessment is designed to provide the most current information on the patient while also including detailed graphs that easily show any trends in anthropometrics, diet ratio, medications, and lab values throughout his or her history with the therapy. |
